Oxidised Earrings for Office Wear
Oxidised earrings have quietly become a workwear staple. They add personality to a plain kurti or a formal shirt without the shine of gold-tone or stones, and the antique finish looks deliberate rather than dressy. The challenge is finding pairs that are light enough for a nine-hour day, quiet enough for meetings, and still interesting.
Here's what we look for when we pick office-friendly oxidised earrings, and how to wear them with different dress codes.

What makes an earring "office-friendly"
1. Weight. You'll wear them for eight hours or more, often with a headset or phone. Aim for under about 10–12 g per pair. Where we know the weight, it's on the product page.
2. Length. Earrings that sit at or just below the lobe, up to about 4 cm, stay out of the way of collars, scarves, lanyards and headphones.
3. Sound. Ghungroo and loose bells are lovely at a festival but jingle on video calls. For work, choose fixed bells or no bells.
4. Secure backs. Screw-backs or snug push-backs mean you won't spend the day checking your ears. Hooks with a rubber stopper are fine too.
5. One point of interest. A single detail, such as a carved motif, a small coloured stone or a coin edge, looks polished. Several layers look festive.
Styles that work at work
| Style | Best with | Notes |
|---|---|---|
| Oxidised studs (floral, geometric, coin) | Everything, from shirts to sarees | The safest all-week choice |
| Mini jhumkas (2–3 cm) | Kurtis, cotton sarees | Traditional but still understated |
| Small hoops and huggies with oxidised texture | Western formals, Indo-western | Modern and minimal |
| Short drops and danglers | Kurtis with round or V neck | Keep under 4 cm |
| Ear cuffs (no piercing) | Smart-casual Fridays | One ear only looks intentional |
Matching earrings to the dress code
Formal western (blazer, shirt, trousers). Small oxidised studs or textured huggies. A geometric or minimalist motif reads more "corporate" than floral or peacock designs.
Business casual (kurti with trousers, cigarette pants or jeans). Mini jhumkas or short danglers. This is where oxidised earrings shine: they look Indian and professional at once.
Saree days and Indian formal. Medium studs or small jhumkas in oxidised finish with cotton or handloom sarees. Keep the necklace off or very fine.
Client meetings and presentations. Studs. Nothing that moves, catches light or makes a sound on camera.
Desk to dinner. Wear studs in the day, keep a pair of medium jhumkas in your bag, and swap after work. Oxidised pieces pack flat and don't tangle if each pair has its own pouch.
Building a five-day rotation
You don't need many pairs, just different ones:
- Monday: plain oxidised coin studs
- Tuesday: small floral studs with a tiny coloured stone
- Wednesday: mini jhumkas
- Thursday: textured huggie hoops
- Friday: short danglers or an ear cuff
Five pairs cover most of a working wardrobe. Our gifting edit under ₹499 is a good place to start building a set like this for yourself or a colleague.
Comfort tips for long days
- Clean posts with a cotton bud dipped in rubbing alcohol now and then, and let them dry.
- If your lobes feel sore by evening, switch to studs for a few days.
- Remove earrings before the gym or a shower so sweat and water don't dull the finish.
- If your skin reacts to an earring, stop wearing it. Fashion-jewellery alloys don't suit everyone, and we don't claim they're hypoallergenic.
What they're made of
Our oxidised earrings are imitation jewellery: brass, German silver or other alloys with a darkened silver-tone finish, sometimes with glass or synthetic stones. They are not silver. German silver contains nickel, so if you're sensitive to nickel, check the material line on each product page. Store each pair in a zip pouch to keep the finish crisp; see our Care Guide.

Frequently asked questions
Are oxidised earrings appropriate for the office? Yes, in small and medium sizes. Studs, mini jhumkas and short drops look professional with both Indian and western workwear.
What weight of earring is comfortable for a full workday? Most people find pairs under about 10–12 g comfortable for eight hours or more. Heavier pairs are better for shorter wear.
Can I wear oxidised earrings with western formals? Yes. Choose geometric or minimal studs and huggies rather than traditional floral or peacock motifs.
Which earrings are best for video calls? Studs or fixed-drop earrings. Avoid ghungroo and loose bells, which can be picked up by microphones.
Will oxidised earrings tarnish if I wear them daily? Daily wear does change the finish over time. Wiping them after each use and storing them airtight slows it down considerably.
